Day 39: I'm Going Home on Tuesday

Charlie slept through the night without incident and, although he didn't have much of an appetite for breakfast, he nibbled on some things.

I should have mentioned yesterday that, when people were checking on him after his throwing up he made a point of telling each person that he was going home on Tuesday. It was never a question. It was never an attempt to begin a conversation about that. It was always just stating a fact that was not up for discussion.

This continued when we had our regular visit from the on call doctors. Most of the visits from the doctors that I have participated in since we came to the 12th floor have been something close to courtesy. He doesn't need a daily doctor visit. However, today we had something to talk about. Between us we agreed that there was not a need for a bunch of tests like before. Let's see if he keeps improving. Sundays are for relaxing, after all.

Charlie wanted to take his bike for a ride again so we did a few laps of the 3rd floor again and took more video that he was planning adding effects to.

Over lunch Charlie had a series of questions. I tried speed dating back in the early 2000s and one person had a series of questions that she asked. I remember thinking that it was weird to decide if you liked someone based on, for example, their favorite cheese. Anyway, Charlie asked, for example, whether I preferred a slice of cake or a cupcake. Much more on brand, he wanted to know if I preferred the flag of Uruguay or the flag of Argentina. I answered and then told him again about my friend Laurence who knows and loves flags. Charlie asked me which of those two flags Laurence preferred so I messaged to ask. Charlie was very tickled at the fact that I had people that I could message that would have an opinion on this topic. (I didn't tell him that I know multiple people that have an opinion on this topic). In the chat, Laurence asked Charlie a question and Charlie asked if he could have my phone to message his reply.

When I took the phone back I learned that Charlie knows about The Seychelles, knows how to spell Seychelles and knows the flag of The Seychelles. Nerd.

We had a relaxed afternoon where Charlie created a Laurence conversation inspired video where he compared flags, including flags of countries that are no longer recognized. Back when I first mentioned flags, I resisted mentioning  the Warrender Park Road 1994 Flag World Cup that I was a witness to because I couldn't do it justice in a concise way. I still can't but I simply can't let today go without at least name checking it. Nerds.

Charlie got some energy and so we goofed around and took some photos.

I failed once again to get him interested in baseball and, instead, we talked about what we were going to do when he got home. My favorite thing on his list was also the first one that he came up with;

Sit on the couch
